UNITED STATES
The streets are paved in gold, it was once whispered, The land of opportunity. It’s known as the “land of the free,” where “purple mountains majesty” shade “amber waves of grain;” in China, its name is simply “the Beautiful Nation.” However, we’re fortunate enough to call the United States by one word: home.NADA
CARIBBEAN
Blazing sunsets over Technicolor seas, teeming with 700 species of fish and 70 types of vivid coral. Trade winds that breathe softly into lush rainforests and over mountain peaks. Palms rising majestically out of sparkling white beaches.
MEXICO
Awe-inspiring resorts, set on powdery sands on sprawling coastlines. Darling coastal villages, where fútbol is played by youngsters on the same streets the greatest European conquistadors and Aztec, Incan, and Mayan warriors once strode; where old traditions live on, tortillas are still handmade, chocolate is served spiced, and Mayan and Nahuatl flows like the rivers that run through the country’s jungle
CANADA
Mountains, “Mounties,” maples, and hockey: these are perhaps some of the better-known traits of our neighbors to the north, but between its 125,570 miles of coastline, the second-largest country in the world is an adventurer’s playground.
HAWAII
There’s only one place in the world where the warmth of the sun is eclipsed only by the warmth of the Aloha spirit. The cool breezes that carry the echoes of ukuleles down shaded avenues and cliffside roads. Waves that tickle your toes on white, stunning red or black beaches. The mighty bellows of smoke that send signals to the skies as gray grounds glow with slow rivulets of lava. The tangible slowing of time as hula dancers sway with the trees and shedding of cares as surfers of all ages crinkle their eyes with a smile and remind you to “hang loose.”
SOUTH PACIFIC
To some, the phrase “South Pacific” may drum up scenes from the classic Broadway musical and movie: skies and seas so blue as to seem surreal, towering mountains that drop down to alabaster sands, and local culture as diverse and uniquely beautiful as the landscape. More modern associations add stilt-legged bungalows over transparent waters and luxurious hospitality to the romance of the islands of Tahiti and Fiji.
The Old World beckons from an ocean away, its legend and history a haunting dream.Squint into the distance: you can still see the ghosts of rising dust on roads leading to Rome or Athens. Time travel becomes easy in a rustic chateau in Provence; cypress-guarded hills of sun-drenched Tuscany; or the Moorish architecture of Seville. It simply stands still when sipping an espresso on the canals of Venice or Amsterdam; strolling the rose gardens of the English countryside; and when you crane your neck until you can stretch it no more to take in majestic spires that twist into the sun in Prague, Budapest, or Barcelona.
EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN
Heritage travel is never more moving than in the world’s most ancient places, desired by all through the course of history and well into present day. The opportunity to walk the same roads in Israel or Jordan and deserts of Egypt as holy figures whose legacies have shaped modern humanity. To gaze upon carved stone cities like Petra that have stood for centuries. Savor life while floating on the Dead Sea, or cruise down the Nile, just as the traders from ancient days did. These experiences are gifts from the past, handed down to us with the grace of ghosts.
SOUTH AMERICA
From the highlands and plateaus of the east to the Andes Mountains of the west and the plains where the Amazon River roars, some of the most beautiful natural sights on the planet are concentrated here. The highest volcanoes in the world tower above Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina, while some of the world’s most rare and even yet-undiscovered flora and fauna thrive in the Incan wilds. In the cities, the cosmopolitan streets of Buenos Aires and heady nightlife of Rio de Janeiro draw crowds, while European Uruguay surprises and delights.
CENTRAL AMERICA
BELIZE, COSTA RICA, PANAMA
Connected geographically to North America and culturally to Mexico and South America. So will your lasting impression be of minnows that flit between round river rocks and your toes through freshwater streams in Belize? Or the rush of adrenaline you’ll awaken in Costa Rica as you soar across a zipline, raft fast-moving currents, and hurtle into forest depths on a bungee? Perhaps the European charm of Nicaragua’s Granada—nearly as Moorish and Andalusian as its namesake in Spain—is what you’ll remember most vividly. With so many fresh destinations here, there’s no telling.
